Deer Enthusiast

Deer -  “Any of a various slender-legged, even-toed, ruminant mammal…having usually brownish fur and deciduous antlers borne by the males” That’s the definition of the word as we know it today. Deer is derived by the old English word “deor” which comes from the middle aged word “Der” which simply meant “A wild animal of any kind.””

A deer represents something. There is a great tingle of excitement in the human animal when they see a deer, no matter how often we see them. Believe it or not the common White-tailed deer were nearly hunted to extinction in the in early 1900s in North America, and since has recovered to about 30 million today. Unfortunately they are still in grave danger; along with most other life forms on this planet. Between a rapid fluctuation in global temperatures, deforestation, and the ever apparent threat of nuclear war, it seems like we could lose our deer population at any time.

We here at deer enthusiast hope to promote enthusiasm for living through film, still image, and written word. For humans to recognize the wild animal or “der”, within ourselves. We have come a long way as a species and still have much more growing to do. We believe by meeting our challenges with enthusiasm, we will all have the chance to live happy and healthy lives.

Much more to come to this page in the near future. Stay tuned.
